Solid Roller Shutters

Solid roller shutters provide full visual closure across a commercial opening when the curtain is down. They are commonly considered for shops, service counters, storage areas and other premises where privacy and a strong visible barrier are priorities outside operating hours.

The appropriate shutter cannot be selected from width alone. The opening, surrounding construction, guide positions, shutter box, operating method, finish, frequency of use and access for installation all influence the design and quotation. If electrical controls, emergency operation or other interfaces are needed, they must be identified in the approved specification.

When full closure is the priority

A solid curtain hides the interior and merchandise when closed, which can suit stockrooms, shopfronts, service openings and commercial units where privacy matters. It does not automatically provide a particular attack-resistance, fire, wind or insulation rating. If the project requires tested performance, the exact product evidence must be named and supplied.

Material, profile and finish

The selected shutter may use different materials or lath constructions depending on size, use and required performance. The quote should state the actual curtain, bottom rail, guides, barrel or drive and finish. A galvanised appearance and a colour-coated finish are different deliverables; colour availability must be confirmed against the chosen system.

Operation and user safety

Manual or powered operation is selected after considering opening size, weight, frequency and users. A powered vertically moving commercial door requires a site-specific safety approach, controls, testing and handover. Maintenance access and a safe response to faults should be considered before installation, not added after the system is in service.

What to include with the survey request

Send photographs showing the complete opening, headroom, side room and nearby doors or signs; approximate dimensions; daily operating frequency; desired finish; power information if known; and whether an existing shutter must be removed. The written quotation must separate product, installation, electrical, access and making-good scope.
